New wind meter

There is now a new weather station on top of the clubhouse. It is feeding wind data to our web page so we have a more reliable source that also happens to be more representative of what's going on at the cliff. It is a completely separate system than the wind talker, since that bunny just goes and goes and I don't want to fool with it.

Just for now, I've put some basic charts up on the webcam page - http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam . The wind pointer graphic is a recent average (5 or 10 minutes, I think) and the blue number is the speed. The red number is the max speed, though I'm not sure yet over what period. As you can tell, I'm still working out some of the details but I wanted to get this puppy online at least.

We estimated due West so the readings may be a little bit off.

You can see the full reports at http://flyfunston.org/img and http://flyfunston.org/img/Current.htm .

We are also pumping the weather into the Weather Underground. You can see it there at http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... KCASANFR66 .

Have fun,

Daniel

Hey Daniel,
Is there any way you can make the wind graphs just show the last 12 hours and not the last 24? What do the rest of you think?
Also.....
We could be the first to have a live FLYING WEBCAM.....
We have the DSL and the wireless...so all we need is a wireless camera and pilots willing to carry it...I would of course....
The only issue I see is a range issue to get the signal to the cliff (no going to westlake with it) but that could be solved pretty easy and we could actually watch from the air !!!
Just thought I would toss that out there incase we wanted to be the first.....
or has someone beat us to it?
Here is a link to some cameras...

What do you all think?

I'm looking into getting a variable graph like the one at http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.i ... siteID=325 . Working on it.

Not sure about the wireless camera, on two counts. First, the wi-fi signal only goes 30-50 feet beyond the clubhouse. Second, we don't have enough bandwidth to stream live data directly from the clubhouse. We've mitigated that problem for the static webcam by uploading the large photos to a hosting company where flyfunston.org resides. I don't think you can do that with live video (but it's a good idea, now that you mention it). Anyone know of a multicasting system like that?

Hey guys,

For various reasons I had to change the station ID on weather underground. The new data is at:

New iWindsurf graph

Ok. Check this out.

http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.i ... iteID=2640

You can zoom in or out using the + / - buttons. You can click and drag the graph left and right to see the history.

You can also switch to the "Classic Graph" - less dynamic but perhaps easier to read.

We are providing the information to iWindsurf for free so you shouldn't need a paid membership to view this graph. Once they get the api finished we'll put the graph on flyfunston.org.

Of all the charts, which do you prefer? I'd like to put the most useful on the easiest-to-reach page.

maybe I'm reading it wrong but on the bottom of them it looks like chunks of 4 hours.......9:15....13:15.....(insert current time)......= 24 total
(on a 24 hour clock......)
It would just be zoomed in on the last 12 hours up there...I guess I can use photoshop ;).....hummmm

Duh on me

Oh, the *24 hour* clock! Of course, it's a 24 hour time frame. Duh on me. But you can get the 12 hour view still from http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.i ... iteID=2640
