when's the best time?

Hi everyone,

I'm an art student interested in shooting some 16mm film footage of launches at Fort Funston for a small project I'm working on. When's the best time to go? What days/time of day do people usually go gliding?

many thanks

Unfortunately, winter is not the best season for this. We need daylight and west-ish winds of 14-25ish mph to be able to fly. At this time of year weekend afternoons will be your best bet. There isn't usually enough daylight for people to come out after work as they do during the summer. On http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam/ you should look for winds of that speed and direction and, of course, for gliders in the webcam. For forecasts, look at http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapCli ... 362&zone=1 for predictions of southwest, west or northwest and/or afternoon seabreeze.

Depends. It's usually just after I have a long period when I'm able to fly. ;-)

It varies from year to year. Could be anywhere from mid-Feb to end of March. That being said, there are usually several flying days during the winter - you just have to be ready to get over there in short order.
